Terms

Terms of use — what this site is, in plain words

Last updated September 2026. The substance of these terms is one sentence: we publish research and make introductions, and the work is done by somebody else under an agreement you make with them.

The Arrangement

What we provide

Cool Comfort Pros publishes information about heating and cooling systems and connects homeowners with independent companies that repair, service and install them. We are not a contractor, we perform no work, we supply no equipment, and we are not party to any agreement you enter into with a company we introduce you to.

We are paid a referral fee by that company. The fee does not vary with the size of the job and does not change what you pay.

Limits

What the information here is and is not

Everything published on this site is general information about how equipment behaves and what symptoms usually indicate. It is not a diagnosis of your system, not an engineering assessment, and not a substitute for measurements taken at your property by somebody qualified to take them.

Where we describe federal rules — on refrigerant handling, certification or efficiency — we describe them as they applied when the page was written, and we cite the agency so you can check the current position yourself. Rules change; our publication date is on the page for that reason.

Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here is a safety instruction for work we have told you not to attempt. Where we say a task is a technician's, that is the recommendation, and choosing otherwise is your decision and your risk.

The Work Itself

Independent companies

Companies we connect you with are independent businesses. They set their own prices, hold their own licenses and insurance, and are responsible for their own work. Verifying licensing and insurance before work starts is worth the two minutes it takes, and any legitimate company expects to be asked.

Questions about these terms go through contact. How we make money is set out in full on about.

Before you call anyone

The independent match — we are paid for the introduction, not for the size of your job

Most roofing advice is written by the company that wants to do the work. That is not a failing of the people who read it; it is a defect in who is talking. The estimate, the diagnosis and the invoice come from one party, and no amount of care on your side fixes that.

We are built the other way round. We do not repair roofs and we do not sell materials, so the payment reaches us when you are connected to a licensed, insured roofing company — the same amount whether your roof needs an eight-hundred-dollar repair or a twenty-thousand-dollar replacement. Nobody here has a reason to talk you into the larger number. How we make money and how we research are both written down.

Find your fault

Waiting is the one thing that actually costs money. An insurance clock runs from the date of the damage rather than the date you noticed it, and damage that sits through a season stops reading as sudden and starts reading as wear — which is the exclusion that pays nothing. And if your roof is simply worn out, say so on the call. No claim will pay for age, we will tell you that plainly, and you will have lost nothing but the call.

Advertising disclosure: Cool Comfort Pros is a free referral and connection service for U.S. homeowners, not a heating and cooling contractor. When we connect you with an independent local company we may be paid a referral fee. That fee does not change what you pay and does not depend on the size of the job. We do not repair, install or service equipment, and we do not sell it.
