Contact us — and what to expect from a referral service
We would rather be useful than merely reachable, so this page starts with what we can genuinely help with and is equally clear about what belongs somewhere else.
If You Own The System
Homeowners
If you want work done, a general enquiry to us is the slow route. The fast one is to start from the symptom: the fault decoder takes what you can see and tells you whether the next step is yours or a technician's, and it costs nothing and asks for nothing.
Two things on this site are worth ten minutes before you speak to anybody. The first is the free check list, because a surprising share of calls end at a filter. The second is what a refrigerant top-up actually means, because that is the quote most often accepted without question and most often the wrong one.

What we cannot do
Emergencies
We are not an emergency service and have no crews. If you smell gas, leave the building and call your gas utility or emergency services from outside. If wiring is smoking or scorched, cut the power at the panel if it is safe to reach and call an electrician.
Diagnose remotely
We cannot tell you what is wrong with your equipment from a description. Every real diagnosis in this trade is a measurement taken at the house, which is exactly why we publish what those measurements are.
Quote or price work
We do not set prices, take payment or hold estimates. The company that inspects your system quotes it, and the agreement is between you and them.
Sell or supply refrigerant
Refrigerant may only be sold to technicians certified under federal Section 608 rules or their employers. We are neither, and neither are you unless you hold that certification.
Other Enquiries
Corrections, data questions and partnerships
If something on this site is wrong, we want to know, and we will correct it and say that we did. Our editorial standards describe how we handle corrections and what we count as a source worth citing.
Heating and cooling companies interested in receiving referrals should read how we work first. We do not sell placement in our research, and we do not write about companies in exchange for anything.
Before you call anyone
The independent match — we are paid for the introduction, not for the size of your job
Most roofing advice is written by the company that wants to do the work. That is not a failing of the people who read it; it is a defect in who is talking. The estimate, the diagnosis and the invoice come from one party, and no amount of care on your side fixes that.
We are built the other way round. We do not repair roofs and we do not sell materials, so the payment reaches us when you are connected to a licensed, insured roofing company — the same amount whether your roof needs an eight-hundred-dollar repair or a twenty-thousand-dollar replacement. Nobody here has a reason to talk you into the larger number. How we make money and how we research are both written down.
Waiting is the one thing that actually costs money. An insurance clock runs from the date of the damage rather than the date you noticed it, and damage that sits through a season stops reading as sudden and starts reading as wear — which is the exclusion that pays nothing. And if your roof is simply worn out, say so on the call. No claim will pay for age, we will tell you that plainly, and you will have lost nothing but the call.
